Scenes which reply frequently from ancient time beautifully depicted in this story.
Dowry is an ancient tradition which still exists in its brutal form as it was in ancient time. It is actually greed of money to receive in highly unethical manner or just ransack a family which is in weaker position.
Brides are treated very badly, tortured and even burned by the family of bride-groom if her family don’t fulfill their heinous greed fully.
But interestingly this tradition is not universal, in our tribal areas where the woman is consider as commodity, girl’s father demanded money from bridegroom which he consider spend on the girl, and the bride-groom have to pay before “Hand over – Take over Ceremony”
Survival of the fittest (which is widely believe of Darwin’s) the most fit sentence in this scenario, which I find true in most part of the life, No one give concession to the weaker person.
There are many factors which make woman weaker and vulnerable, the most important is their brought up, they are brought up to become slave, requirement to the need of a master; if they are brought up properly they will not be bargained and not become load to her family members.
Kalimullahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06280814705278142487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5613632675367188848.post-79346194235278643622013-01-22T01:39:18.944-08:002013-01-22T01:39:18.944-08:00The story faithfully portrays the predicament of g...The story faithfully portrays the predicament of girls in the traditional Indian families, particularly the ones in the rural areas which are infested with a plethora of prejudices and inhibitions. What is most striking and shocking in the story is the attitude and treatment of a mother towards one of her offsprings, a fellow female being and thus justifies the allegation of people that women are often greater perpetuators of patriarchy and women subjugation than their male counterparts. If a mother cannot understand the emotions and feelings of a daughter, then only God save the poor girl. Irrespective of the position and status women enjoy in their familes, their attitude towards their fellow female beings has mostly been negative, thus nullifying the eforts of women to come out of the shackles of society. It is often seen that it is either the mothers, mother-in-laws or sister-in-laws, sometimes sisters even, who subjugate the less intelligent, less beautiful or less rich female beings to their own designs and desires and cause endless suffering to them. She knows her future will be unhappy and that there is no way out. A poignant and animated story; it makes me glad for her loveliness, and so sorry for her plight.Thank you.Joneve McCormickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11947405308804313682noreply@blogger.com
